The present invention relates to a process for preparing an indene, which involves reacting an indanone with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst comprising one or more oxides, preferably metal oxides. Preferred oxides comprise elements from groups Ia, IIa, IIIa, IVa, Va, VIa, Ib, IIb, IIIb, IVb, Vb, VIb, VIIb and VIII of the Periodic Table, or elements from the lanthanide group.

Méthode pour préparer un indène, consistant à faire réagir une indanone avec de l'hydrogène en présence d'un catalyseur renfermant un ou plusieurs oxydes, de préférence des oxydes métalliques. Parmi ces oxydes, il y a de préférence ceux des éléments des groupes Ia, IIa, IIIa, IVa, Va, VIa, Ib, IIb, IIIb, IVb, Vb, VIb, VIIb et VIII du tableau périodique, ou encore des éléments du groupe des lanthanides.
