A process for making optically pure (R) and (S) salbutamol comprises obtaining the (R) or (S) isomer of either salbutamol or a salbutamol precursor in substantially optically pure form by resolving a racemic or optically impure mixture of enantiomers of salbutamol or of said precursor with either (L) or (D) tartaric acid, and where necessary converting said isomer of said precursor into either (R) or (S) salbutamol respectively; then optionally converting said optically pure (R) and/or (S) salbutamol into a pharmaceutically acceptable salt.

L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication de salbutamol (R) et (S) pur sur le plan optique, consistant à obtenir l'isomère (R) ou (S) soit de salbutamol, soit d'un précurseur de salbutamol sous une forme sensiblement pure sur le plan optique en résolvant un mélange, racémique ou impur sur le plan optique, d'énantiomères de salbutamol ou dudit précurseur avec soit de l'acide tartrique (L), soit de l'acide tartrique (D), et le cas échéant à convertir ledit isomère dudit précurseur respectivement soit en salbutamol (R), soit en salbutamol (S); puis éventuellement à convertir ledit salbutamol (R) et/ou (S) pur sur le plan optique en un sel acceptable sur le plan pharmaceutique.
