27,864 PROCESS FOR PREPARING N-ALKYLETHYLENEDIAMINES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This disclosure describes a novel process for pre- paring N-alkylethylenediamines wherein the alkyl is from C3 to about C6 which are useful as intermediates for purifying penicillins. N-alkylethylenediamines are also useful for preparing penicillins and cephalosporins. More particularly, the invention relates to a pro- cess for the efficient reaction of an alkyl halide wherein the alkyl is from C3 to about C6 and ethylenediamine and the recovery of anhydrous, ethylenediamine-free N-alkylethylene- diamines therefrom.
