ABSTRACT The invention relates to a process for preparing aminopropane amides substituted at the amide nitrogen and at the amine nitrogen, comprising re- acting methacrylonitrile or acrylonitrile with either a stoichiometric amount or an excess of amine at an elevated temperature in the presence of water. Advantageously, the reaction is conducted in the presence of a catalyst.
