There are disclosed a catalyst for the polymeriza- tion of an olefin which comprises (A) a transition metal complex compound represented by the general formula (I) Image (I) wherein the respective symbols are as defined in the speci- fication, (B) a Lewis acid and/or an ionic compound capable of reacting with the transition metal complex compound of the component (A) or its derivative to form an ionic com- plex, and (C) an organic aluminum compound, and a process for preparing an olefin polymer in the presence of this catalyst. The catalyst of the present invention is inex- pensive and has a high activity, and according to the present invention, the deterioration of the activity can be inhibited and the molecular weight of the obtained polymer can be easily adjusted, so that the olefin polymer can efficiently be prepared which has an optional molecular weight and can possess a molecular weight distribution in which low-molecular weight and high-molecular weight por- tions decrease.
L'invention concerne un catalyseur utilisé pour la polymérisation d'une oléfine, comprenant (A) un composé d'un complexe d'un métal de transition représenté par la formule générale (I), (B) un composé ionique et/ou un acide de Lewis qui réagissent avec le composé (A) ou un dérivé de celui-ci pour former un complex ionique, et (C) un composé organoaluminique. L'invention concerne également un procédé permettant de produire un polymère oléfinique au moyen de ce catalyseur. Ce catalyseur est peu cher, a une haute activité, ne subit aucune réduction de son activité, et facilite la régulation de la masse moléculaire. Il permet donc de produire, de façon efficace, un polymère oléfinique présentant une masse moléculaire arbitraire et une répartition de la masse moléculaire telle que les pourcentages de la fraction de masse moléculaire basse et de la fraction de masse moléculaire élevée sont bas.
