- 1 - SPECIFICATION Title of the Invention: Process for Preparing Olefins from Heavy Petroleum Oil Abstract of the Disclosure: Disclosed is a process for preparing olefins from heavy petroleum oil which comprises mixing said heavy petroleum oil with superheated steam at a steam-oil ratio in the range of from 2 to 7, and indirectly heating the resulting mixture so that the temperature at the outlet of a reaction zone may be in the range of from 700 to 950°C at a residence time of from 0.01 to 0.1 second in the reaction zone. The aforesaid process is capable of preparing olefins from heavy petroleum oil at high yields without the deposition of carbonaceous substances or the development of coking on the inner wall of a reaction.
