-1- Abstract: A novel process for effectively preparing an optically active cyanohydrin comprising asymmetrically cyanating an aldehyde by reacting the aldehyde with a cyanating agent in the presence of a titanate of an optically active tar- taric acid derivative. The optically active cyanohydrins obtained are useful as medicines, agricultural chemicals and as intermediates in the synthesis of pyrethroid.
