A process for preparing perfluoroalkanesulfonyl fluorides, e.g., perfluoromethanesulfonyl fluoride, comprises electrochemically fluroinating in the presence of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride at least one precursor compound selected from the group consisting of .alpha.,.beta.- difluoroalkane-.beta.-sultones, e.g., 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane sultone, and the corresponding .alpha.-halocarbonylfluoroalkanesulfonyl halides, e.g., fluorocarbonyldifluoromethanesulfonyl fluoride. The process can be used to prepare perfluoroalkanesulfonyl fluorides in good yield and can be, for example, both more electrically-efficient and more fluorine-efficient than the conventional preparative method involving the electrochemical fluorination of hydrocarbon alkanesulfonyl halides.

Procédé de préparation de fluorures de perfluoroalcanesulfonyle, p. ex. de fluorure de perfluorométhanesulfonyle, par fluoruration électrochimique, en présence de fluorure d'hydrogène anhydre, d'au moins un composé précurseur choisi dans un groupe consistant en alpha , beta -difluoroalcanes- beta -sultones (p. ex. le 1,1,2,2-tétrafluoroéthane-sultone) et d'halogénures de alpha -halocarbonylfluoroalcanesulfonyle correspondants (p. ex. le fluorure de fluorocarbonyldifluorométhanesulfonyle). Le procédé peut servir à préparer des fluorures de perfluoroalcanesulfonyle avec un bon rendement, présentant notamment une efficacité supérieure, sur le plan de la consommation à la fois d'électricité et de fluorure, à celle du procédé usuel de préparation recourant à la fluoruration électrochimique d'halogénures d'alcanesulfonyles carbonés.
