A process for the preparation of polybenzazole filaments which includes extruding filaments from a spinneret (1) having at least 100 holes, which are arranged to form an annular pattern (2) around the center of the spinneret (1), the center and at least two radial sections (3) of the spinneret (1) having no holes and an average width which is at least 3 times the minimum pitch of the holes, and drawing the filaments through a quench chamber while providing a substantially radial gas flow therein across the spinneret (1) from at least two different directions.

Procédé de préparation de filaments de polybenzazole qui consiste à extruder des filaments d'une filière (1) présentant au moins cent orifices disposés de manière à former un motif annulaire (2) autour du centre de ladite filière (1), le centre et au moins deux sections radiales (3) de la filière (1) n'étant pas dotés d'orifices et présentant une largeur moyenne correspondant à au moins trois fois le diamètre minimum des orifices, et à étirer les filaments à travers une chambre de trempe, un flux de gaz sensiblement radial étant produit dans la filière (1) depuis au moins deux directions différentes.
