ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Polymers or copolymers of formaldehyde are obtained by polymerizing formaldehyde and an optional co-monomer such as alkylene oxide in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a metal complex obtained from tetraphenylporphyrin or a deriva- tive thereof and an organometallic compound. The resulting poly- mers or copolymers have a narrow molecular weight distribution and may be block copolymers of formaldehyde and the co-monomers.
