ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for preparing a porous body which comprises forming high silica wet gel containing an addition element through hydrolysis and then drying the wet gel to make a dry gel, whereby an aqueous solution for dilution obtained by mixing a solvent such as an alcohol and water for hydrolysis is employed for hydrolysis, instead of pure water, is disclosed. Ac- cording to such a process, a homogeneous and transparent gel can be obtained.
