Abstract of the disclosure: Pure 2-acyloxyalkane sulfonates-1 of the formula I (I) Image in which R1 represents a straight-chained or branched alkyl ra- dical containing 6 to 16 carbon atoms, R2 represents a straight- chained or branched alkyl radical containing 1 to 17 carbon atoms or phenyl, and M represents a monovalent metal ion, pre- ferably an alkali metal ion, are prepared by reacting a 2-hy- droxyalkane sulfonate-1 of the formula II R1 - CH(OH)CH2SO3M (II) with an activated acid derivative of the formula III R2 - COX (III) in which R1, R2 and M have the meanings given above, and X re- presents an acyloxy group containing 2 to 18 carbon atoms or a halogen atom. These compounds are used as foaming agents for the formulation of preparations for the care of the teeth and mouth. They show a good foaming capacity and a pleasant taste.
