ABSTRACT A substantially pore-free shaped article having a thick section, composed of polycyclic norbornene polymer, is produced by bulk-polymerizing a norbornene monomer having a tricyclic or higher cyclic structure in the presence of a methathesis catalyst in a mold while controlling the maximum curing exotherm tempera- ture of the reaction mixture to a level not exceeding 160°C; this process permits manufacture of large machinable plastic stock of superior physical characteristics such as reduced water-absorbing property by reactive injection molding.
