ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The preparation of a cyanoguanidine of the formula Image wherein R, is a lower alkyl R2 is a group Het - (CH2)mZ(CH2)n - wherein Het is a nitrogen containing 5 or 6 membered heterocyclic ring, Z is sulphur, oxygen or methylene group, m is 0, 1 or 2 and n is 2 or 3 such that m + n is from 2 to 4 is disclosed. The compounds are useful as histanine H2- antagonists and as inhibitors of gastric acid secretion.
