ABSTRACT Processes for the production of 4-eq.-halogen substituted polycyclo-alkylidene polycyclo-alkanes and corresponding epidioxy compounds using as halogenating agent a member of the group comprising N-halosuccinimide, tect.-butylhypohalite and sodium hypohalite acetic acid are described. The epidioxy compounds are useful as chemiluminescent compounds. Additional suitable functional groups are added which enhance immunochemical utility of the compounds i.e. fatty acid radical and protein radical. The epidioxy compounds are of the general structural formula Image wherein A and B are alkylene radicals and R2 represents a suitable substituent.
