Process for Preparing Titanium Dioxide Abstract An improved method for preparing a rutile titanium dioxide pigment of uniform particle size wherein the pig- ment is formed by reaction of a mixture of an oxidizing gas and a titanium halide in the vapor phase at elevated temperatures in the presence of a metal ion containing compound. The improvement comprises introducing the metal ion containing compound into a vapor phase oxidation reactor containing the reacting mixture in at least two separate and discrete increments. The first increment is introduced into the reactor at a point prior to reaction of said mixture having occurred while the second increment is introduced into the reactor at a point wherein at least 20 weight percent of the total titanium halide reactant has been converted to the desired titanium dioxide pigment.
