Dead leaves can be extremely beautiful. Think of the color of the maple leaves in the fall. In Canada, the maple leaf is an important symbol. It appears on the Canadian flag and on many objects. The problem with dead leaves is that they are extremely hard to preserve. To be properly preserved, they cannot be in contact with air and humidity. The typical technique to preserve them is to keep them flat in a book. They can also be kept in formalin or be varnished. In this invention, a new process effectively preserves dead leaves. The process consists of two steps. First, the moisture in the dead leaf is removed by keeping the leaves flat in a portfolio. The second step consists of laminating the leaf using a pouch laminator. The leaf is first inserted in a plastic pouch and the laminator is preheated. The pouch is then inserted in the hot laminator and as a result, the leaf is completely embedded in the pouch. The plastic coating fully protects the leaf from air and humidity. The laminated dead leaf can therefore be preserved and be used for all kinds of objects : magnets, cards, bookmarks, collage, sculptures, mobiles, etc. As a variant, messages can be added to the leaf in the plastic pouch and laminated with the leaf.
