A process for preventing or retarding frost formation on substrates such as grass or leafy plants is disclosed. The process involves spraying the surfaces of these substrates with a frost prevention composition comprising a mixture of water, a water-soluble freezing point depressant, such as propylene glycol, and a water dispersible thickening agent for such composition, such as a cross- linked polyacrylic acid polymer. The composition is preferably applied just prior to expected frost onset and serves to lower the freezing point of dew which accumulates on such substrates which have the frost-prevention composition adhered to the substrate surfaces.
Ce procédé permet d'empêcher ou de retarder la formation de givre sur des substrats tels que les herbes ou les plantes feuillues. Il consiste à pulvériser à la surface de ces substrats une composition de prévention de givre comprenant un mélange d'eau, un agent hydrosoluble d'abaissement du point de gel tel que le propylène glycol, et un agent d'épaissement, dispersable dans l'eau et propre à cette composition, tel qu'un polymère réticulé d'acide polyacrylique. On applique cette composition de préférence juste avant l'arrivée prévue du givre, et elle permet d'abaisser le point de gel de la rosée qui s'accumule sur les substrats à la surface desquels on a pulvérisé cette composition de prévention du givre.
