ABSTRACT The invention concerns the suspension polymerisation of vinyl chlo- ride and relates to a method which very largely prevents the formation of po- lymer deposits on the reactor inner wall and on the internal fittings, the polymerisation taking place in aqueous suspension. A process for the manufac- ture of a homopolymer or copolymer of vinyl chloride by polymerisation of vinyl chloride or of a mixture of vinyl chloride and one or more copolymerisable mo- nomers in aqueous suspension at 30 to 70°C in the presence of a suspension agent and a monomer-soluble catalyst, wherein 0.0005 to 0.05 per cent by weight, relative to mononer, of hydrogen peroxide is added to the polymerisation batch and, if the process is carried out in the presence of a suspension agent which is sensitive to hydrolysis, a pH value of 7.5 to 8.5 is maintained.
