ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention is intended to provide a novel process for producing 2,6-dimethyl-4-(m- nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate-3- methyl ester-5-.beta.-(N-benzyl-N-methylamino)ethyl ester, and enables the production of said compound in a short time at a high yield by reacting a compound of the general formula (1), for example, 1.51 g of m- nitrobenzaldehyde with 2.48 g of (N-methyl-N-benzylamino)- ethyl 3-aminocrotonate and 1.15 g of methyl 3-aminocrotonate for 1 hour in a basic solvent (e.g. pyridine) containing an acid (e.g. acetic acid).
