ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides in a process for pro- ducing 2-acetamideocinnamic acid and substituted 2-acetamid- cinnamic acids which comprises reacting glycine with an aro- matic aldehyde in the presence of acetic anhydride and sub- sequent treatment with water, the improvement in which the reaction is carried out in the presence of a tertiary amine.
