(4855) PROCESS FOR PRODUCING 2-PYRROLIDONE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for producing 2-pyrrolidone by simultaneous hydrolysis and hydrogenation of succinonitrile at elevated temperatures and at hydrogen pressures below 500 psi in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. This invention relates to an improved process for the synthesis of 2-pyrrolidone (also known 2-pyrrolidinone) from succinonitrile. More particularly. this invention relates to the synthesis or 2-pyrrolidone by the simultaneous hydrolysis and hydrogenation of succinonitrile in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst at hydrogen pressures of less than 500 psi.
