ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The gaseous mixture resulting from the catalytic reaction of 3-methylpyridine with ammonia and oxygen is treated with water to recover 3-cyanopyridine. The treatment takes place in two steps. In the first step there is used a temperature of about 30 to 60°C and in the second step at a temperature about 10 to 30°C lower than in the first step.
