This invention consists of using a relatively accurate series of measurements or images of a moving object, such as a beating heart, to obtain a sequence of restored images by minimizing an error function which includes a matching term between the restored images and the measurements, a spatial smoothing term for the images to be restored and a temporal-smoothing term for the restored images, using an evaluation of the object's movement between the primitive image at the movement phase under consideration and the object's image at the next phase.
