ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure is directed to a process for producing a reverse osmosis module in which a tubular reverse osmosis membrane is wrapped about a coil form. The tubular reverse osmosis membrane is manufactured of a desired length, after which a porous supporting member is applied to the exterior of the tubular membrane to enable it to withstand internal pressu- res. Then couplings are applied to the opposite ends of the tubular membrane and the supported tubular membrane is heat treated under predetermined conditions of temperature and pressure which are selected as of 72° to 94°C, and 5.2 to 9.4 kg/cm2, respectively. The process is also characterized by winding the supported tubular membrane on to a coil form to form a helical module under conditions substantially the same as those employed for the heat treatment, these conditions being continually maintained during both the heat treating and wind- ing steps. A reverse osmosis module produced in this manner has average rejection characteristics above and beyond the rejection characteristics of modules formed in known manner. The process is economical in that the heat treatment and coiling steps are carried out either sequentially or partly or completely simultaneously. The processing is more economical because the module is manufactured employing fewer steps and less handling so that the possibility of operator error is reduced.
