ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present process is intended for producing the ace- tals of saturated or unsaturated aldehydes particularly for pro- ducing the dimethyl acetals of acrolein and methacrolein. The acetals are formed in the liquid phase in the presence of solid acid catalysts such as strongly acid ion exchange resins or zeol- lites. The reaction mixtures are extracted by means of water and by means of organic solvents which are,not miscible with water. The acetals formed are recovered in a simple manner and in very good yields and so are the non-reaeted components of the starting substances .
