Abstract of the Disclosure Alpha-picoline or substituted alpha-picol?e is produced by contacting aniline or substituted aniline with a crystalline zeolite catalyst which preferably has a silica:alumina ratio of at least 12 and a constraint index of 1 to 12 and separating the alpha-picoline or substituted alpha-picoline by distillation or extraction. The aniline or substituted aniline may be formed in situ.
