71529-48 ABSTRACT In the process of producing N-acetyl-para-aminophenol wherein 4-hydroxyacetophenone is reacted with a hydroxylamine salt and base to form 4-hydroxyacetophenone oxime and said oxime is subjected to a Beckmann rearrangement to produce said N-acetyl-para-aminophenol, the improvement which comprises treating said 4-hydroxyacetophenone with an aqueous solution of hydroxylamine salt at a temperature of 50-100°C for about 5-15 minutes to form a stable oil.
