A process for producing an aromatic or heteroaromatic thiol represented by the following general formula (2): Ar-(-SH)n by hydrolyzing an aromatic or heteroaromatic halomethyl sulfide represented by the following general formula (1): Ar-(-SCH3-mXm)n, in an industrial manner readily at a low cost, wherein Ar represents an unsubstituted or arbitrarily substituted aromatic or heteroaromatic group; X represents a halogen atom; m represents an integer of 1 to 3; and n represents 1 or 2.

Procédé de production d'un thiol aromatique ou hétéroaromatique représenté par la formule générale (2): Ar-(-SH)¿n? par hydrolyse d'un sulfure d'halométhyle aromatique ou hétéroaromatique représenté par la formule générale (1): Ar-(-SCH¿3-m?X¿m?)¿n?, à l'échelle industrielle, de manière simple et à faible coût. Dans lesdites formules Ar représente un groupe aromatique ou hétéroaromatique non substitué ou à substitution arbitraire; X représente un atome d'halogène; m représente un nombre entier compris entre 1 et 3; et n représente 1 ou 2.
