ABSTRACT A process for recovering brominated acena- phthylene and its condensate in the form of powder, comprising dropping a solution of brominated acena- phthylene and its condensate produced from acenaphthene by reactions of bromination, condensation and dehydro- bromination into hot water containing a carboxylic acid ester of polyoxyalkylene sorbitan, while the solvent is being distilled off, to recover the bromi- nated acenaphthylene and its condensate in the form of powder dispersed in water. The invention provides an economically profitable industrial process for producing brominated acenaphthylene and its condensates, in which the safety in operation is enhanced by keeping workers away frome exposure to organic solvents and avoiding inflammation and explosion of inflammable organic solvents.
