Disclosed is a method for producing graphitized cathode blocks. A carbonized cathode block is used in a longitudinal graphitization method, the cross section of said block being larger at the ends of the block than in the middle thereof. At least part of the graphitized material is removed from the ends upon graphitization. Also disclosed are cathode blocks produced according to the inventive method and the use thereof for the electrolytic production of aluminum.

L'invention concerne un procédé de production de blocs cathodiques graphités. Un procédé de graphitisation longitudinale fait appel à un bloc cathodique carbonisé dont la section transversale aux extrémités du bloc est plus grande que celle au milieu, au moins une partie de la matière graphitée étant supprimée aux extrémités une fois le processus de graphitisation achevé. L'invention se rapporte en outre aux blocs cathodiques produits selon ledit procédé et à leur utilisation dans le cadre de la production électrolytique d'aluminium.
