ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A chloro .beta.-trifluoromethylpyridine is produced by reacting a chloro .beta.-trichloromethylpyridine with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a specific metal fluoride in the vapor phase at high temperature for a short time. The chloro .beta.-tri- fluoromethylpyridines which are useful as intermediates for agricultural chemicals and medicines can he obtained in high yield.
