A process for the production of cigarette wrapping paper having low ignitability, which comprises applying a first aqueous solution containing divalent cations to a base wrapping paper in such a way that the first aqueous solution covers the whole of one surface of the base wrapping paper, applying a second aqueous solution containing a water-soluble gellable sub-stance capable of gelling under the action of the divalent cations to the first- aqueous-solution-coated surface of the resulting base wrapping paper in such a way that the second aqueous solution covers at least part of the first-aqueous-solution-coated surface, and then conducting the gelation of the gellable substance to form a combustion-inhibiting substance.

L'invention concerne un processus de fabrication de papier pour filtres à cigarettes à faible inflammabilité comprenant les étapes consistant à appliquer une première solution aqueuse contenant des cations divalents sur un papier pour filtres de base de telle sorte que la première solution aqueuse recouvre toute la surface du papier pour filtres de base, à appliquer une seconde solution aqueuse contenant une substance  hydrosoluble, pouvant être gélifiée, capable de se gélifier sous l'action des cations divalents sur la surface du papier pour filtres de base résultant revêtue avec la première solution aqueuse, de telle sorte que la seconde solution aqueuse recouvre au moins une partie de la surface revêtue par la première solution aqueuse, puis à réaliser la gélification de la substance pouvant être gélifiée pour former une substance empêchant la combustion.
