ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE composite vibration-damping materials having a resin layer sandwiched between two metal sheets can be produced by reacting prepolymers with low-molecular weight compounds having functional groups capable of reacting with the functional groups in said prepolymers to form covalent bonds and handling the resulting crosslinked resin in such a way that it is sandwiched between the two metal sheets. In accordance with the first embodiment of the invention, two low-molecular weight compounds having different numbers of functional groups per molecule are used; in accordance with the second embodiment, two prepolymers having different numbers of functional groups per molecular chain are used; and in accordance with the third embodiment, a mixture of a first prepolymer and a low-molecular weight compound is coated on at least one surface of two metal sheets and then a second prepolymer is dusted over the coated surface nonuniformly, followed by compressing the two metal sheets together. The thus produced composite vibration-damping materials not only exhibit satisfactory damping performance over a broad temperature range but also develop high adhesive force between the resin and metal sheets at both ordinary and elevated temperatures. In addition, good spot weldability can be imparted to the damping materials by incorporation of an electroconductive filler.
