ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE D,L-homocystine is produced by mixing an aqueous solution of the disodium salt of D,L-homocysteine having a concentration of between 0.4 and 1.6 moles per litre and an initial pH of between 7.0 and 8.0 with at least the equivalent amount of an aqueous hy- drogen peroxide solution and on completed oxidation the pH is adjusted to approximately 5.3. The hydrogen peroxide solution can be applied in a concentration of between 20 and 60 percent by weight.
