A process for producing dimethylacetamide from acetic acid and dimethylamine which comprises: (i) a neutralization step in which acetic acid and dimethylamine are neutralized by mixing the two at ordinary pressure in a dimethylamine/acetic acid molar ratio of 1.01 or higher to obtain a liquid reaction mixture containing dimethylamine acetate thus synthesized; and (ii) an amidation step in which the reaction mixture is reacted at an elevated pressure.

L'invention concerne un procédé de production de diméthylacétamide à partir d'acide acétique et de diméthylamine. Ce procédé comprend (i) une étape de neutralisation dans laquelle on neutralise l'acide acétique et le diméthylamine en les mélangeant l'un avec l'autre à une pression normale à raison d'un rapport molaire diméthylamine/acide acétique d'au moins 1,01, pour obtenir un mélange réactionnel liquide contenant de l'acétate de diméthylamine synthétisé; et (ii) une étape d'amidification dans laquelle on fait réagir le mélange réactionnel à une pression élevée.
