A process for producing gasoline is disclosed, which comprises oligomerising a mixture of butanes and butenes over either silicalite (whether stabilized or not) or zeolite, optionnally in the presence of water, then etherifying the resulting hydrocarbon mixture in the presence of methanol over an acid cation exchange catalyst.
