ABSTRACT Production of Iminodiacetonitrile. The invention relates to a process for the production of iminodiacetonitrile by reacting hexamethylene tetramine with hydrogen cyanide in aqueous acid medium at a temperature of 30 to 90°C. In this process, the pH-value is progressively reduced by a total of 0.5 to 3.5 units during the reaction, beginning at pH 5.5 to 7.5, and free formaldehyde is only present in a limited quantity. In contrast to known processes, this suppresses the formation of secondary products and an iminodiacetonitrile sufficiently pure for further use is directly obtained in a very good yield.
