ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE The invention is concerned with a process for producing aqueous emulsions for air drying and stoving paints, on the basis of polyethyleneglycol modified alkyd resins, with improved stability over long periods. In this process, fatty acid esters carrying ether-like bound polyethylene glycol radicals are reacted with normal alkyd resin raw materials to give an alkyd resin intermediate, which, in a next step, is esterified with an acidic vinyl copolymer carrying methacrylic acid and oil fatty acid radicals. The excellent stability characteristics of the products despite the relatively low content of polyglycol of from 3 to 8 %, is due to the substantially unsaponifiable linking of the stabilising groups.
