ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to a process of producing novel crystals of N.alpha.-[[(S)-4-oxo-2-azetidinyl] carbonyl]-L- histidyl-L-prolinamide (hereinafter referred to as Compound A) shown by the formula Image The process of the present invention comprises (a) suspending crystals of Compound A in 2 to 6 times of water to the amount of the crystals under ice-cooling or (b) dissolving crystals of Compound A in 3 to 6 times of water to the amount of the crystals under heating followed by ice-cooling; and collecting the crystals formed. Compound A is known to have utility for the treatment of consciousness disturbance and memory disorder. The crystals of the present invention are stable under conditions of ambient temperature and humidity without any change of the crystal form due to water adsorpyion or dehydration. Accordingly, these crystals are advantageous for storage, manipulation and formulation of Compound A.
