A process for the production of optically active .beta.-amino alcohols of the general formula (II) which comprises treating an enantiomeric mixture of an .alpha.-aminoketone of the general formula (I) or a salt thereof with at least one microorganism selected from the group consisting of those belonging to the genus Morganella and so on to form a .beta.-amino alcohol having a desired optical activity in a high yield with high selectivity.

Cette invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'alcools .beta.-amino optiquement actifs représentés par la formule (II). Ce procédé consiste à traiter un mélange énantiomère d'un .alpha.-aminocétone représenté par la formule générale (I) ou un sel de ce composé au moyen d'au moins un micro-organisme pris dans le groupe des micro-organismes qui appartiennent au genre Morganella, etc. pour former un alcool .beta.-amino présentant l'activité optique requise à haut rendement avec une sélectivité élevée.
