ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for producing an optically active threo-3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)serine useful as a remedy for hypotension or as an antidepressant, which comprises allowing the crystal nuclei of an optically active threo-3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)serine to be present in a supersaturated solution of racemic threo-3-(3,4- dihydroxyphenyl)serine and allowing the same optically active compound as that of said crystal nuclei to crystallize preferentially out of said supersaturated solution.
