ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Improved phenolic foams are produced having a more uniform cell structure, improved mechanical and thermal properties, and improved foam structure by foaming a phenol-aldehyde aligomer condensate such as a resole, an extended resole, or a mixture of a resole and a novolac resin in the presence of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone.
