ABSTRACT A process for the production of a polymer with a wide molecular weight distribution by continuous adiabatic polymerisation of butadiene-1.3 in the presence of an organolithium catalyst in a flow tube, wherein the feed of catalyst is periodically varied over a fixed cycle time between a lower and a higher value and a back mixing of the individually formed zones of different molecular weight takes place in the flow tube. These polymers are useful par- ticularly in tread rubber formulations for passenger vehicles.
