Ce procédé de fabrication d'acrylate de butyle secondaire par réaction de l'acide acrylique et d'au moins un butène en présence d'une résine cationique macroporeuse à groupements acide sulfonique, est caractérisé par le fait que l'on conduit la réaction en utilisant un rapport molaire de l'acide acrylique au(x) butène(s) mis en oeuvre qui est supérieur à 1, le produit brut de réaction comprenant de l'acide acrylique résiduel, des butènes isomères dissous, l'acrylate de butyle secondaire recherché, des octènes, du butanol-2 et des produits lourds d'addition, et qu'on sépare l'acrylate de butyle secondaire recherché du produit brut de réaction.
