ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel process is disclosed for the production of substituted phenethylamine derivatives of the formula: Image wherein R1 represents a lower alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group, or a hydroxyl group; R2 represents a hydrogen atom, or a lower alkyl group;R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; and R4 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group, or a hydroxyl group. These compounds exhibit .alpha.-adrenergic blocking action and are useful as antihypertensive agents and agents for the treatment of congestive heart failure.
