ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for producing titanium carbide by reacting a titanium chloride such as titanium trichloride or titanium dichloride with a carbon source and a metal selected from the group consisting of aluminum, magnesium, sodium, calcium and aluminium titanium alloy is improved by molding the mixture of the raw materials to form a molded mixture having a bulk density of 1 to 5 g/m? preferably 1.5 to 3 g/m? and heating the molded mixture in an inert atmosphere.
