ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the production of titanium tetrachloride from titanium oxide-bearing material in a fluidized bed chlorinator at low temperatures, the product so obtained being suitable for use in the production of titanium pigment, comprises grinding the material into a fine powder, admixing the powder with fine bituminous coking coal and a water soluble binder, pelletizing the mixture into small grains, coking the grains to carbonize them, and subjecting the carbonized grains to chlorination in the fluidized bed.
