The invention relates to a process for producing wood compacts where wood flour is compressed to form shaped pieces. In order to be able to produce wood compacts without regard to the local availability of sawdust, at least a fraction of the wood flour for compression is to be provided by an upstream processing operation from waste wood and/or virgin wood, by subjecting the waste wood and/or virgin wood to coarse comminution, separating off extraneous elements and carrying out fine comminution to wood flour.
