1767 ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE A process for the treatment of wood or wood pulp comprising adding during the course of pulping an s-triazine compound having at least two NH2 groups is described. Mel- amine is the preferred s-triazine compound. The s-triazine compound when retained in the wood pulp and the wood pulp is used in a papermaking process provides a paper product with enhanced characteristics including wet and dry strength, ink and pigment retention, improved color and brightness, soil and grease resistance, and dyeability. -45-
